Glossy Glamour

So I have a thing for glamour at the moment, it could be because of the lack of it in my life at the moment. I’m going glossy magazine (among other things) shopping tomorrow. The most recent Juxtapoz magazine has a piece about Natalia Fabia, who is an artist I’ve been interested in the past. Her new stuff looks even better though. The piece below is my favourite, it has almost made it out of the magazine and onto my fresh white bedroom wall. I love the movement in the water and the almost photoreal style. But there is also the fashion element, this picture wouldn’t look out of place in a magazine like Inked. Kind of fashion oil painting, rather than fashion photography. Fabia usually uses her friends to model for her. [this picture doesn't do it justice AND she appears on Miami ink, legend!]

I didn’t intend to blog about Fabia particularly but then I stumbled across Linnea Strid today. She is more ‘fine’ art, less fashion concerned, but the water caught my eye again, it is absolutely stunning. The piece below is ‘Try not to waste’, I think I appreciate this one particularly due to a lot of time drawing hands recently.

She has lots of examples of her work on Flckr. I also liked the one below but there are lots, many revolving around water. I also like the fact that in these paintings even though they are quite dimly lit, the colours still feel bright with all the reflections in the water.

P.s. just after I published this post I went on DeviantART and looked through the daily picks (which I rarely do) and found Linnea Strid was one of todays picks. Weird coincidence. This was the piece chosen.

Marmite Concepts

Some sketches I’ve been working on for a book about Marmite. I’ll put the one thats being taken to completion up, when its complete.

Basically the idea will revolve around scraping the dregs out of a pot of Marmite, but without the tattoos (shockingly someone else had this idea too).

So this week I will be mostly doing two jobs, jobs being like buses of course. It feels good to be working hard on something that I can really get my teeth into.

I’ll keep you posted on further developments and should have the final piece ready in about a week.
